Job Description:

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is excited to announce its Internship Program for the year 2024 in the United Kingdom. This program provides a unique opportunity for driven individuals to gain hands-on experience in international relations, diplomacy, and trade policy within a dynamic and diverse work environment.

Responsibilities: Interns at DFAT will be entrusted with a variety of responsibilities, including:

  1. Assisting in research and analysis related to international affairs, trade agreements, and diplomatic missions.
  2. Supporting the preparation of briefing materials and reports for senior officials.
  3. Participating in meetings, conferences, and diplomatic events to gain exposure to diplomatic protocols.
  4. Contributing to the development of communication materials and outreach initiatives.
  5. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on special projects to advance diplomatic and trade goals.

Qualifications: To be eligible for the DFAT Internship Program, candidates should meet the following qualifications:

  1. Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate program, such as international relations, political science, law, or a related field.
  2. Strong academic performance and a keen interest in international affairs.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  5. Demonstrated analytical and research skills.

Experience: While prior internship experience is not mandatory, candidates with exposure to international relations, diplomacy, or trade policy will be considered favorably.

Skills:

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  2. Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
  3. Research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  4. Adaptability and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  5. Language skills (especially proficiency in additional languages) are desirable but not mandatory.
